From August to December Imagine Staff members guided students through STEM based activities and self driven projects. Most clubs concluded with the STEM Showcase. The staff got to know many students at several schools in OPS and at their own organizations, from McMillian, Marrs, Morton, Lewis & Clark, Indian Hill, Jackson, and more. Take a look.
Saturday December 3rd, 2016, Boys and Girls Club of the Midlands hosted the First Lego League Omaha Qualifier. The plan is after the 18 teams compete, seven teams would qualify and move onto the Regional qualifier in Ashland in February. Each team that arrived was excited to compete and nervous to present.
There were several teams that had competed in past years and only 2 or 3 teams that had never competed before. Four teams did not even arrive to compete.
The Imagine Science team, The Silverback Scientists arrived with some presentation practice under their belts. They had been at the STEM Showcase two weeks earlier and won the presentation competition.
It was a fun, interesting, and a great learning experience for everyone involved.
Way to go Silverback Scientists who won the Judge’s Award trophy due to the team’s fight, courtesy, and constant ‘never give up’ attitude.
On November 19th, 2016, I attended the first annual Imagine Science STEM Showcase at the UNO Fieldhouse. I had so much fun. There were ten other Imagine Science after-school clubs that also displayed and explained their projects for the judges. It was a so much fun to eat the treats with my friends from school, see each team’s t-shirts, present my project, participate in the Mannequin activity, and listen for Ms. Liz to call my name for a door prize ticket (which I won free movie tickets). In the end it was such an exciting day and it was cool to find out who the BIG winners of the projects were and what prizes they picked. They had so many cool choices!
Even better, as we were headed to our buses we got an Imagine backpack full of stuff! I can’t wait for next year!
Our summer Imagine Science camps were FANTASTIC this year! From Mad Scientists, Simple Machines, to Yum, Fizz, Boom, and Aquatic Engineering!(just take a peek below) Students from all around Omaha learned about chemical reactions, engineering, levers, physics, and SLIME!
Thank you to all the organizations, staff, and students who made it such a successful summer!
See you all next summer!
We believe in America’s young people and we believe our success — in our communities and as a nation — is dependent upon our ability to inspire the next generation of problem solvers. Imagine Science is backed by a coalition of the Boys & Girls Clubs of America, Girls Inc., the National 4-H Council and the YMCA of the USA and collectively we serve 18 million youth each year in every state in the nation and U.S. territories.
By 2020, we will inspire millions of under- and un-served youth to engage in STEM learning opportunities never before offered to them. Together we see a way forward.
